Holocaust of the Innocents

It is difficult for us to grasp the huge scale of the misery that is inflicted on innocent people by the many conflicts that affect our lives and the lives of the peoples of our world. Whether a conflict is tiny – a family fall-out – or major a war between countries, different races within a country, tribes, people of different colour or religions they almost always have one thing in common, there will be innocent victims who will had no say in the reasons to fight and quarrel and will have no say in what may happen to them as a result of such conflicts.

The Biddenham Suite at Bedfordshire Golf Club was full this weekend as 75 members and guests gathered to enjoy an evening of screened horse races. The event was jointly sponsored by Paragon Electronics and Wells & Young’s Brewing Company.

Each race was sponsored, notably by groups of members, our Professional’s Shop, Prestige Scaffolding and the Inn at Astwood. In addition every horse was owned for a modest price by members and staff and eight horses were auctioned on the evening.

The take on the Tote, ably managed by Barry Solomon and Seniors Captain Colin Kidby, was over £520 which, added to the sponsorship, raised a profit of £1025 for the Forces Children’s Trust, one of the Club Captain’s charities. This is the second year the club has made a contribution to this charity which supports children in need whose mother or father has died or been injured whilst serving in the British Armed Services.

Thanks to all those who contributed to this worthy cause.
