Following the FootstepsIn an exciting bid to raise funds for the Forces Children’s Trust, David Hanmore of The Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment Living History Group will be embarking on a very personal sponsored Great War walk.

The walk will see David follow the family footsteps of his Grandfather Private S/9134 Stanley Hanmore and his Great Uncle Lance Corporal L/7403 Frederick Hanmore who both served in France and Belgium with The Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment during the Great War.

David’s challenge commences on the 4th August 2014 during the unveiling of a new Great War Commemorative Arch at the top of the Road of Remembrance in Folkestone and will end on the 11th November 2018 at the Menin Gate in Belgium. David’s target will be to walk a total distance of 1,561 miles – a mile a day to commemorate every day of the Great War and will see him visit some of the places that his Grandfather and Great Uncle will have seen while serving with the Regiment.

David has recently completed a 350 mile walk to raise funds for The Forces Children’s Trust to coincide with the 350th Anniversary of the founding of the Royal Marines (in which David’s son currently serves) as well as in 2010 raising over £1,200 by completing a walk along the Front Line of the Somme battlefield in France. This time he is aiming to see that total broken by this event.
