poppyOne year has passed and myself, Poppy Gibson, and 20 other FCT children are back off to the Lake District for more fun, teamwork and adventure- we just can't stay away!

I have been on the FCT Outward Bound week nearly twice now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it both times; not only have I had endless amounts of fun with my friends, I've also gained confidence and independence along the way. The instructors are brilliant for accommodating all of our needs as well as engaging with us on a professional and more personal level, which really helps us to bond as a group.

RAF ValleyWHEN ex-RAF Valley Master Aircrewman Antz Males lost his life in tragic circumstances in 2012, the Forces Children’s Trust was a great help to his widow Bridget and two young children Jack and Macey. The Trust provides for a range of activities to support children of bereaved service personnel, from Outward Bound expeditions to counselling and emotional support.

Friends and colleagues at the Valley-based Search & Rescue Training Unit (SARTU) - which trains helicopter crews from all three armed services in vital search and rescue techniques - rallied round to organise a charity boxing night at the Anglesey base to raise money for the trust. Master Aircrewman Simon Allen explains:

Following the FootstepsIn an exciting bid to raise funds for the Forces Children’s Trust, David Hanmore of The Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment Living History Group will be embarking on a very personal sponsored Great War walk.

The walk will see David follow the family footsteps of his Grandfather Private S/9134 Stanley Hanmore and his Great Uncle Lance Corporal L/7403 Frederick Hanmore who both served in France and Belgium with The Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment during the Great War.

This year Andy Chatts, Mo Molavi, Greg Palmer and Chris Kidwell will paddle the length of NI in Open Canadian Canoes. The total distance is approx 125km, across Grade 2-3 moving water and the largest freshwater lake in Europe. Canoe NI recommend eight days for this journey, but they’re going to try and do it in two!

Why? Well, to raise funds and awareness for the Forces Children’s Trust (FCT) who provide support specifically for children who have had a parent killed whilst serving in the military. The FCT offers support by providing funding for specialist care needs, assisting widowed parents and organising activities, trips and events for the children.

So please dig deep and show some support by making a donation to the Forces Children’s Trust, either through the collection tin or by going to:
